Drop-off Process

Hayes Metals drop-off facility is located at:
12 Angle Street, Onehunga
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Saturday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon)
(closed Sundays and Public Holidays)
If you have a large amount of scrap, please arrive well before our closing time to ensure we can thoroughly assess your scrap and offer you the best possible price.

Bring your unwanted metal items to our designated drop-off location for recycling. By recycling metals, you help conserve natural resources, reduce energy consumption, and minimise environmental impact.

Our friendly and knowledgeable team will assist you in unloading and assessing your metal waste to provide you with the best possible offer.

Hayes Metals generally accepts almost all types of residential scrap metals, including;
- Metal off-cuts, old parts or surplus materials
- Redundant machinery
- Electrical cable
- Switchgear
- Rebar, pipes, tubing, plate, sheets
- Plumbing fittings, metal pipes, taps, faucets
- Whiteware (washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers)
- Stoves and ovens
- Appliances
- Heat-pumps and air conditioning units (we have the equipment to also be able to recover A1 and A2L air-conditioning gases)
- Hot water cylinders
- Gutters and spouting
- Roofing steel and iron
- Hand tools
- Power tools (remove any batteries)
- Automotive parts
- Complete cars (tyres must be removed from the wheels)

However, we are unable to accept the following;

Step 1

Gather your metal items: Collect all the metal items you wish to recycle. Ensure they are clean and as free of non-metals as possible to maximise the price that we can pay.

Step 2

Visit our recycling facility at 12 Angle Street, Onehunga
Bring your metal items to our designated drop-off location.
Ensure you bring photo ID with you as it's required legally for the sale of any scrap metal.
You'll also need to provide your full name, contact address, and contact phone number.

Step 3

Inspection: Our team will inspect and grade your metal items to determine what metal(s) they are made from and their value.

Step 4

Weighing and valuation: The metal items will be weighed using our calibrated scales to determine their total weight. Based on the weight and type of metal, we will calculate the value of your items

Step 5

Payment: If you accept our offer, you will receive immediate payment.
You will be provided with a receipt detailing the weight, type of metal, and the amount paid.
